God’s Word for Today: Wither
1Peter1:24-25. For, all people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.
Wither is a word I hate to admit. When you are young, and somewhere between ignorant and know-it-all, wither is humorous. We see things grow old, wither, and die. But, we have the world by the horns. We are living in all our glory. Life is good.
Then, years fly by. Things change. The evil of the world beats you down. So much fight turns into simple survival. Muscles that once dominated are showing signs of wither. Our skin is taking on a whole new gravitational dimension of down. We are like that flower drooping, and ready to just rest.
But God has a different plan. He is talking this “forever” stuff. Endurance is God’s gift for you.
Today, know that if you are still here, there is a reason. God isn’t done yet. Yes, the body might be depicting wither. But the mind, and more importantly the heart, if given to God, endures for like ever. That is where the true beauty is, inside, ready to bloom, every day……………………
Prayer: Dear Lord, I don’t want to wither. Forgive me for the days I want to quit. Strengthen and renew me from within. Help me to bloom every day. In Jesus’, who withered on the cross just for me, name I pray. Amen and amen.
