God’s Word for Today: Upside-down. Yesterday, I had the privilege of turning a skid steer into something resembling a ride at Worlds of Fun. This particular skid steer, a Bobcat 753 is known as being compact and convenient. The problem is, the machine itself is small and lightweight, and the bucket is rather large and bulky. Combine that with a load of rather wet black dirt, and some of you might be getting the picture.
I was running the skid steer simply because I wanted to help out one of the contractors that was doing me a favor. This contractor had a huge Caterpillar brand skid steer that is equal to a team of 40 horses. I was helping out with my version of a small Shetland pony.
I was dumping one of my loads of wet compacted dirt, bucket high in the air to reach over the existing pile, the world upright when suddenly my skid steer’s center of gravity decided to change. In a rather abrupt introduction to adrenaline rush, I was soon, still seated, looking straight down at the ground. Hence, my previous reference to an amusement park ride. The only difference to that analogy was I had control. Well, sort of control.
You see, when the world, or your piece of equipment, flip flops to an inverted vertical instead of horizontal perspective, normal control also reverses itself. I had to stop everything for a split second and think about my next move. If I had followed my natural sense of control movement, I could have easily found my next position to be completely upside down. Thankfully, I calmly did the reserve of normal and gently lowered the machine back on to all four wheels. Life was good again.
Today know that your life can sometimes be just like that overloaded skid steer. The weight of this world, the worries and strains of life can be heavy. Too heavy. And you find yourself hanging in midair ready to flip over and slam into the ground. That is when you take a second. Than is when you release the control you think you have, and turn it over to God. Normal habits will only throw you upside down. God’s direction will slowly and gently let you settle back to an even keel. That is a huge but necessary correction in your life when things are going flip flop. Give it to God. I believe He is the one who set the world right to begin with…………..
