God’s Word for Today: Upgrade.
1Thessalonians 5:9-11 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.
Oh man, has today’s word, “upgrade”, gained popularity in the last few years. Upgrades are not popular with my bank account though. I will not even attempt to cover upgrades of cell phones, computers, and apps. Daily, our lives are now filled with upgrades. Some free, some not so free.
One has to pay for needed upgrades. I noticed this when I started launching websites and blogs. Budgetary wise, I focused on the lowest price. My thinking was, “Let me figure out my page, decide what really is needed and what is really unnecessary. Then, I will upgrade.”
Similar to the purchase of my first Harley Davidson. I was asked right on the showroom floor what theme or upgrades I wanted put on my new scoot prior to its delivery. My reply was simple, “Let me ride it for a while and then decide what upgrades I wanted to add.” Now, after a few years of experience I could walk into a dealership, pick out a bike, and tell them exactly what I wanted put on. More chrome of course. You can never have enough chrome. Serves no purpose, but, well, it’s chrome.
Sorry, went a little off course talking about shiny parts on motos. Maybe I should take a course on focusing my thoughts. But, how much extra am I to pay for an all-inclusive upgrade? They grabbed my attention at “only $9.99 per month.” Then I discovered, $9.99 strictly provided me the ABCs of writing. If I want the whole alphabet, it was going to be $49.99 per month. And, they would throw in free, an automated daily reminder that my payment was due.
Even our infamous Facebook sells upgrades. The two dedicated pages where these Words of God are posted, (one in English, and one in Spanish) and the two blogs (one in English, www.godswft.org and one in Portuguese, www.apalavradedeusparehoje.org) daily remind me that if I want more readers and a better following, I must buy promotional upgrades to reach more people. Not really a scam. Just another way for a multi-billion-dollar company to make a few billion more.
God’s plan has an upgrade too. When you first get on your knees and turn all your burdens and sins over to God, it is basic and simple. You are forgiven. You are clean. You are saved. Life is pure and good. The clouds you are being carried on are amazing. Would be nice to stay right there, for like, ever.
Then, the world comes invading back in. All of the daily problems and struggles are knocking at your door. They won’t give up, they won’t quit. Your clouds of enlightenment are being quickly erased. You fall back to the reality of this cruel world. Then what?
Today, might be a good time to buy into God’s upgrade. Payment terms are simple. You take what you learned and felt when you committed your life to Christ. You start adding features to your simple plan. Upgrades like caring for your fellow man, forgiving others, giving freely of your time and money to those less fortunate, smiling more, praying more, trusting more, loving more. Every upgrade God has for you to add to your life’s plan is fully described and outlined in the Bible. Take some time every day. Grab one upgrade and install it into your daily life. Might take a while to download and you will need to be plugged in. But the benefits are priceless. Then, start adding more…
Prayer: Dear Lord, provider of the ultimate in life’s plans. I thank you for offering the best deal, to me. Forgive me for the times when you are only an afterthought. Help me to start working on some upgrades. If I want the best in life, then I need everything you have to offer Lord. In Jesus’, who supplied a limitless debit card for my purchases of your upgrades, name I pray. Amen and amen.
