God’s Word for Today: Thought. “Now here’s a thought” one of the most popular introductions to a person’s light bulb that goes off in their head. Having thoughts is very good. Sharing those thoughts is good. Other times, probably not so good. We will not focus on the not so good. Instead, let us talk about that newest thought that popped into your head. Possibly at 3:00 this morning when you would be much rather sleeping. But, for some reason it is the only quiet time in your daily life that allows a good thought, to emerge.
What do you do with your thoughts? Some, have the discipline to write them down. Others speak them out loud. Maybe to themselves first, and then verbalize to others. Then there are those, who without giving it a thought, immediately speak whatever thought popped into their head. Last, you have the ones who have a difficult time sharing, verbalizing, writing, or doing anything reactive with their thoughts. They have at one time or another been hurt because of sharing their thoughts. They have locked the door on ever being hurt again. The brilliant, caring, and need to be thoughts, are forever suppressed in their minds.
Which one are you? Are you a thought sharer that other people would really appreciate it if you kept most of your thoughts to yourself? Or, are you disciplined enough to only share what you consider good thoughts? Possibly, you are one that almost never shares a thought? My first thought is that I am somewhere between the person sharing too many thoughts, and the person attempting to share only good thoughts.
I strive to be more like my Dad who when he spoke, you listened because you knew he had put some thought into what he was going to say. But, I have also been blessed with my Mom’s thought process that has a tendency to verbalize a considerable amount of thoughts. Where do you fit in? And, who in your life has been the greatest influence on your thoughts?
Proverbs 14:15. The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.
I like that verse. I would like to hope that somewhere I have graduated from “simple”. I have always enjoyed hearing other people’s thoughts and then compared them with what is actually wise. Yet again, I can recall many times when I have skipped the wise part. Can you relate?
I have discovered, via the daily birthday announcements on Facebook, the people who have retained me as “friend”, but have blocked the receipt of any of my posts. My first thought was, wow, I didn’t think anything I had to say was that offensive. But then, I put some thought into those, who at one time or another, I had hit that little magic button and excluded any of their post from reaching my page. I was tired of their thoughts. After some thought, I realized the error of my ways. You are my friend. I want to know what you have to say. If you share 100 posts every day, or only share 1 post every 100 days, you are still a blessing in my life and I cherish your thoughts.
Nothing seems to close up the sharing of thoughts like the subject of religion. And, I suppose that is why my thoughts are “blocked” from numerous people’s pages. Even the greats like Billy Graham and Joel Osteen only get a little less than 1% response to their thoughts. Maybe it is that danger zone of discussing religion and politics. There is a line, that crosses the friendship boundary. Or maybe, it is the fear of losing a good friendship. I can’t say for sure. God uses me to share His thoughts, good. Some people don’t agree with those thoughts. That is OK. I will still love them. God loves them even more.
Today, here’s a thought; Proverbs 4:26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. That my friend is some good thinking and very good advice. Chew on that for a while today. Then, after some thought, put this verse to work. Choose to be the prudent one……………
Prayer: Dear Lord, who has thought of me even before my creation. I thank you for the blessings you lay in front of me each and every day. Forgive me, for the days I give your blessings, no thought. Help me to put some thought into each step I take today. I want to be the prudent one. Simple is not so good. Then Lord, with your help, maybe I could share a wise thought or two with a friend. In Jesus’, whose only thought was His love for us, name I pray. Amen.
