God’s Word for Today: Swift
Ecclesiastes 9:11-12. I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all. Moreover, no one knows when their hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net or birds are taken in a snare, so people are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them.
I have never been swift. That word defines deer and 100 meter dash runners. Swift does not define me. I am not even swift thinking.
Have you ever taken a day and not been in a hurry? Once we are in the habit of rushing to and fro, always on a mission, it is very difficult to slow down. The question you must ask yourself is, “what is the big hurry?” Does my being swift get me any further ahead than if I would stop and enjoy God’s simple gifts?
Today, if you practiced swift and breezed through our Scripture. Slow down, read it again. God is speaking to you. There are very powerful words right here……………
Prayer: Dear Lord, why do I hurry? Forgive me for thinking my swift actions will get me ahead. Help to know that you, God, are what will get me ahead. In Jesus’, who taught us our daily walk, name I pray. Amen and amen.
