God’s Word for Today: Spread. At first, when this word spread came to fruition, I was thinking about the different uses. My thought was, spread was used to describe one’s place of residence back in the 70s. Now, this morning with a clearer mind and two cups of coffee, I realize that not a single person, hippie or no, has ever referred to their domicile as a spread. Pad yes, spread no.
But, the light bulb did go off and I realized that spread was a term used to define one’s ranch. Maybe through the reading of Louis L’Amour’s westerns did I acquire the knowledge of a ranch being called a spread. You are currently thinking, who really cares?? You would much rather use the word spread to define what you are putting on your toast or bagel in the morning. Whether it is simply butter, cream cheese, jelly, or my personal favorite, peanut butter and honey, spreading of said delight is a simple precursor to devouring what was spread.
And then, we have spread used in a distasteful light. Spreading of lies. Spreading of rumors, (typically the same thing). Or spreading of any number of colds or flus. I suppose that will start again next week, when all the kids return to school from Christmas break. Usually a pretty good run of cold and flu germs brought back too. Make sure you share with your children that kids in South America are right in the middle of their summer break. Many of them are spreading a towel somewhere on a beach and enjoying the pleasures of a good summer vacation. No cold, no flu, maybe a chance of dengue due to mosquitos spreading their unwelcome diseases, but otherwise a whole month more of tranquility.
The greatest use of the word spread though, is the ability to spread good news. In our modern day and age of instant whole world transmissions, good news can spread like wild fire. False news can too. Do you think Mark Zuckerberg is really going to give away billions in Facebook stock?? Would be nice, but I have my doubts. It is a good way to spread a post though.
Acts 19:20. In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.
Recently, we launched a Blog for God’s Word for Today, in English. There has been mixed responses versus a simple post on Facebook. At first, the number of visits was climbing and multiplying. Then, after a peak, it dropped off dramatically. So, we added a couple more features and have started doubling our sharing of the blog on Facebook. Visits and new hits are back on the rise. Comments, thoughts, word requests, and other things are very quiet.
I don’t know if it is a comfort thing before a person can share their personal religious views and beliefs on a blog, or maybe GWFT has some work to do. It is impossible to fix problems if there is no feedback. We are actively seeking said responses. I do know that next week, hopefully, we will be launching A Palavra de Deus Para Hoje (GWFT in Portuguese) and maybe in a couple of weeks, we can launch the Spanish version. We will see. God is in control of this operation. We pray for His will to be done.
Today though, we ask one simple favor. To end out the year, please “share” this site on your Facebook page. Just like you would share any other cute meme or thoughtful pronouncement, we ask that you share the GWFT’s blog. Even if you have never once hit the like button on GWFT posts, we asked and pray that you show a little compassion for this young and struggling blog. It may not be the ultimate way to spread God’s Word, but it is a start……………..
Prayer: Dearest Lord who is most deserving of our efforts, today I pray for a chance to spread your word. Forgive me for being hesitant, shy, resistant, or even ashamed to tell others of what you mean to me. You have blessed me in so many ways Lord. Now, I need to start sharing your blessings with others. Help me to finish 2015 with a step in your direction. In Jesus’, who shared His life for me, name I pray. Amen
