God’s Word for Today: Small
Proverbs 24:10. If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!
The very first thing I notice about this Scripture is the fact that it is a statement and not a question. Note the exclamation point at the end. There is no questioning what is being said here. This is a fact, pure and simple. If you fail in times of trouble, how weak you are. Some rather tough words to swallow. I know I have failed in times of trouble; does that make me small? Yes, it shows that I am weak. And, that is the truth. I challenge anyone reading this to refute that statement. We have all been weak. And, this weakness seems to multiply when trouble arises.
Let’s take a break from this fact for a moment, and discuss what is going on today in USA. Today is known as Super Tuesday. This is the year we will choose a new President. All through February and clear into mid-June, are the primaries and caucuses of voting that each of the States and some territories hold. These determine the Republican and Democratic candidates for President that will be voted on by all, in November. It is a rather confusing and controversial process to choose these candidates. I would have to write a book or two to explain how it works. You would probably go to sleep.
This year, on this day, Super Tuesday, 11 states are holding their primaries, plus 2 others hold Republican, and also the territory of American Samoa. Overall, the Democratic candidates can win 1/3 of the delegates needed, and the Republicans can win ½ of the needed delegates. It is a rather important day in the USA.
It is also a very small day. Just like any other day, this year, it is only 1/366 part of the whole year. That is less than 1/3 of 1%. Small, miniscule, tiny, insignificant if you look at a period in your lifetime.
And that my friend, is why we have small as our word today. This Super Tuesday is going to be the talk of World News. This day will have a major impact on the world for the next 4 years. People have dedicated their time, their money, and even their careers to push their choice of candidate to the top. Today is huge. Nothing small about it for a lot of people. One day is looked at as changing the course of history.
Now, let’s get back to today’s Scripture. There are only 3 actual days that should be the most noted in anyone’s life. The day Jesus was crucified, and the day Jesus was resurrected are the first 2 days of upmost importance. One of those could have been its own Super Tuesday. Nothing has ever had more of an impact on this world than those 2 days, nothing.
Today, you should recognize the 1st and most important day in your life. Presidential candidates and their big days come and go. But this day, for you determines whether you stay small or live large. The most important day of your life should always be the day you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior. This day is the moment you acknowledged the first 2 most important days. Christ’s death for your sins and then His defeating death through His resurrection. When was, or when will be your Super Tuesday? Today is the day you will no longer be small……………….
Prayer: Dearest Lord, creator of the heavens, the earth, and every day after that. Thank you for also creating me and giving me some days on this earth. Forgive me for the times my faith is small and I put more emphasis on this world than I put on your love for me. Today, I recognize the most important day in my life, ever. That day is when I accepted Jesus as my personal Savior. Thank you for taking the small out of my heart, and giving me the strength and love that changed the course of my life. In Jesus’, whose love for me surpassed anything of this world, name I pray. Amen.
