God’s Word for Today: Sit
The other day, I was visiting with someone about attending various auctions. The infectious excitement of trying to be the one who gets the “buy of the day”. The fear of being the person who gets stuck with a pile of items that you really didn’t want, but your hand just happened to be the last victim of the auctioneer’s capturing eye. Or, maybe just the gathering of friends and neighbors you haven’t see for ages, is what entices one to attend an auction. The “online” bidders these days don’t know what they are missing.
All, is well and good at an auction until you realize you are getting tired of maintaining an upright posture. First, your feet began to sing of their grief. Your lower back decides a duet of painful sorts needs to be included. You begin to scope out any reasonable place to park your discomfort. To heck with that soap dish you thought you just had to have. Someone else can bid on it. Your body is now the highest bidder for some semblance of relief.
Matthew 15:35. He told the crowd to sit down on the ground.
Even Jesus knew the need to sit and relax. How could anyone even begin to absorb His words of salvation if their body was distracting their brain with signals of discomfort? The best way to listen is to sit. Let your mind concentrate on what your ears are gathering, not what your feet and legs and back are screaming at you. Sit, relax, and listen.
How many moments? How many hours? How many days, are spent doing everything one can possibly squeeze into a millisecond instead of taking some time to sit and listen to what God is telling you?
Today is a good day to get ready to put your tiresome week behind you. Tomorrow is the day God set aside to take a break from your exhausting life. Sit, take a load off, relax, and listen to the peace and direction God wants to include in your life. Amen, and amen……..
