God’s Word for Today: Select. Have you ever considered wanting to be one of the “select few”? When it comes to winning the lottery, almost everyone has put their imagination in that select category. Or maybe, being the one selected to run up on stage on a game show. Many a thought has been put into how you would react and answer differently than some of the silly people, whose first time in front of a TV camera is a select experience in itself.
Select goes hand in hand with “chosen”. Today is the National Holiday celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. He could be considered as one who was selected. Although, if you had the chance to ask him, I believe he would humbly decline the recognition of being select. Martin Luther King, Jr. simply took his God given talents and made the most of them.
There are many men and women who fit this category. And maybe someday we can combine the recognition of several of these men and women for a National Holiday. Just like Presidents Day is now the celebration of several president’s birthdays, we could have a Christian Leader’s Day. Or maybe Select Speaker’s Day. Yes, Martin Luther King, Jr. did some amazing things in the Civil Rights movement and should be recognized. But, so should many other people. Thing of the hundreds of thousands of souls that were saved by Billy Graham. Or maybe someone the great works of Mother Theresa. When a person starts to single out and select names, there is no limit. What would be the cutoff for who makes the Select holiday or not?
If you as a select individual are a major influence on someone else’s life. If you brought them from the pits of dark and nothing. If you went out of your way and were a major influence of the eternal life of one soul. Aren’t you just as select as someone who had the opportunity to affect thousands? I think so. I think each and every one who walks this earth has a choice of being select. It saddens me that some pass on the select thing. It brings me joy to see the ones who start by helping one other soul and then suddenly are caught up in a continual growth effect. Where more and more people become that of select. Good stuff. Maybe that should be our new National Holiday. Good Stuff day. What do you think?
Colossians 1:16. For in him all thing were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
Do you know what this Scripture says? I mean, can you really make sense of it? Maybe select the writing between the lines? Yeah, yeah, yeah, God made everything. We all know that. Or should know that. One immediately thinks of all the bad of this world, and questions God making all things. Please don’t go in that direction. It is a waste of time. Instead, take some time. Absorb this verse. Then realize God made You. Yes, you are selected by God. He not only made you, He chose you. You are right up there with the select powers and rulers and thrones and authorities. (I mixed up the order on purpose) because order doesn’t matter. You are just as important to God as anyone who has a National holiday named after them.
Today, think of the greats. And yes, Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the select greats. His very own quote, “God, help us to believe we were created for that which is noble and good; help us to live in the light of Your great calling and destiny.” Do you get it? The greats were great because they all recognize that each and every person is a special gift selected by God. You are great too. Carry on with the rest of your day, the rest of your year, and the rest of your life knowing and being one of the select…………
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for some of the amazing people of this world who have touched and changed so many lives. Forgive me for any hint of criticism I have for their recognition. Instead Lord, help me to direct my energy on being the person, the select person, that you chose me to be. Thank you for your Blessings Lord. Thank you for giving me the chance to be your Select. Now Lord, let’s you and I, go select a few more! In Jesus’, whose gave His life so I could be your Select, name I pray. Amen.
