God’s Word for Today: Second
“If you’re not first your last”, a quote from a humorous movie that didn’t take a vast amount of intelligence to watch, but the entertainment value was decent. The saying itself fits very well into a good share of today’s lifestyle.
I really can’t say what happened to being second. No one seems to remembers who came in second. Except, the person who was one spot short of first. In a lot of cases, second is darn good. It beats being third. And, far exceeds the reality of last. Still, no one strives to be second. First is the bomb. First gets you somewhere.
If our current President had made the declaration that he promised to put the people second. And that he will strive to make this Country second. Or, second is your position because he promises to take first place. He probably would not have been elected. For many politicians, putting the others second is a very truthful statement. Maybe being first and being honest struggle to go hand in hand in the political realm? Better not go there.
Genesis 1:8 God call the vault “sky”. And there was evening, and there was morning-the second day.
When God created this world, He did some awesome creating on the second day. One cannot argue with the magnificence of the sky. And, I don’t believe the sky considers itself second. Most days, the sky has a dominant role in how the day is going to play out. Is it going to be a bright shiny day, gloomy and dreary, a much-needed wash of rain, or maybe something that supplies a difference in your life from that day forward?
Jesus put himself second, so you could be first. And, Jesus can be just like the sky in determining how your day is going to be. Simply reverse roles. Put Jesus first. Put your loved ones first. Put your neighbor first. Put being thankful first. Don’t be afraid of a day of being second. It is an awesome role to play. And, you will find that every part of your life will soon be rewarded with first, by simply taking the role of second………….. Amen and amen.
