God's Word for Today: Right. As in, "you got that right". Or maybe, "Nobody's right if everybody's wrong". I challenge you to tell me what song that verse came from. If you are right, that means one of two things. One, you grew up close to the same time period I did. Or two, you know how to use google. Which way of coming up with the correct answer is the right way? Hmmmmm, sound like something we can discuss.
Doesn't it feel good to be right? Especially if there was some form of wager placed, and now you are entitled to receive your reward. I seem to have a tendency to be wrong more often than not when it comes to friendly wagers. I don't mind paying off a good bet that is made in fun. Keeps life interesting.
Even if there is no money involved, or other compensation for being right, it still feels good to prove someone else wrong. I really don't know why. Does it prove we are of a superior intelligence? Does it mean that we are vastly more knowledgeable than the other person? Does it mean we have more trophies in our trophy case of life's rewards? I really can't tell you that. I just know it feels good to be right. Even if you are right about a wrong, it still seems right, to feel a little bit good, about being right. Am I right?
Or, we could take it one step further and boast about being right handed. There is a definite advantage to being right as opposed to left. Don't think I better even touch the subject of right and left when it comes to politics. We will leave that to those who think they know which view is the right view. Back to the right hand, left hand thing. Don't you have to look harder and pay a little extra for left handed golf clubs? Or maybe a right handed baseball glove because you throw with your left? And, have you ever even seen a left handed baseball bat? Or maybe a left footed football? Very difficult. Am I right?
Proverbs 2:9. Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go.
There is a lot being said in that Bible verse. It is so very simple and clear cut. First, understand what is right, and then you will find the right way to go. Sounds simple anyway. But the human nature, that God so blessed us with, of questioning, has complicated this being right.
In my current circumstances, I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to spend more time in the study of religions and God's Word. I probably should have said God's Word first and then religions, but there is a tendency in this world of ours to put religion first and God's Word second. Am I right?
I will give you an example as a form of reference. You can do your own judging of whether I am right, or completely insane, but here we go anyway. For the last few weeks, I have been observing completely opposite ends of the religious spectrum. I have attended, observed, and participated (as allowed) in various Catholic services. In the same time period, I have also been a part of Jehovah Witness's Bible studies, and attended a few of their meetings.
Some of you might want to stop right now, block me as your friend, or at least "hide" my posts so you never have to hear another word I say. After all, how could a person go that far to either side of the spectrum of religion in the same week, with a clear concience? For those of you who have stuck with me, I have one more little twist. The Catholic services are in Spanish. The Jehovah Witness meeting are in Portuguese, more or less. I am still pretty much stuck in the English language. So where does that leave me you ask? It actually makes me totally concentrate on what is being said. It makes me take the accompanying literature and review it when I get home (via my smart phone translator). God is forcing me to pay attention, reflect on every word being said, and then reviewing it. Gee, thank you God.
So, you might ask, Terry, who is right? Do the Catholics have it spot on, or do these door knocking Jehovah Witness's know what they are talking about? The answer is simple. Both of them are right. Both of these religions know what they are talking about. Both use the Bible as their primary reference. Both are the right religion for the right people. And, both have a few things wrong, but that is because they are being run by imperfect man. God probably gets a kick out of his creation that can take something so very simple and make it complicated and then call it the "right way".
Today, is a very good day to get it right. First, take some time away from trying to decide what religion is right. Clear that distraction from your mind. The evil of this world wants you to be confused. It wants you to be undecided. So simply don't decide. Take today's Bible verse and live by what it says. First, understand what is right, just, and fair. Then and only then, can you begin to find the right way to go.................................
Prayer: My dearest and most loving Heavenly Father, I thank you for being right. Forgive me for every wrong I have chosen to follow. Today Lord, I admit that I have been looking for the perfect right. So many people try to tell me what is right. But Lord, only you know what is right for me. You made me God. You know me inside and out Lord. Help me to choose your Right in this world that so easily hands out wrongs. In Jesus', who got it right the first go round, name I pray. Amen.
