God’s Word for Today: Out. In our last day, finalizing our “week of over” it is only appropriate that we end with the word, out. Just like the ending of a two way radio transmission, we will have over and out.
I don’t know exactly where this over and out thing started. According to the always correct Wikipedia (yeah, right) both of these words are never supposed to be used together in proper radio/phone communications. Either your transmission is over and you are waiting for an answer, or you are out and gone. But, what fun would that be? How many times as a kid playing with walkie-talkies, (I never had the real ones, I always used a tape measure, and extended it like an antenna. Pretty creative huh?) did we use the “over and out” phrase. As a matter of fact, our whole two-way radio vocabulary might have contained “roger”, “roger that”, “clear”, “negative”, “over”, and “over and out”. I just don’t see how Wikipedia can take that away from our memories.
Saturday was supposed to be the last day in our “week of over”, but I failed to generate a GWFT. I have many, many excuses. All of them, of course, are quite relevant. Let me explain.
First, I failed to get out of bed at the crack of dawn. I knew I had a full day ahead. Just one of those mornings where it seemed more beneficial to rest than to wrestle the morning. It wasn’t that late, but later than the norm. Anyway, after morning coffee, it was then necessary to mow the lawn prior to the heat of the day. I still inwardly smile when I mow the grass, because I love to see the looks on people’s faces as they mow. Almost always a look of pure determination. Pretty close to a scowl. Never a hint of extreme joy.
I was attacking the tall green stuff with all my might, and then was reminded I had made a statement about fixing meatloaf for lunch. So, temporary delay in weed eating and mowing, make some meatloaf (to me turned out amazing, thanks for the hints big Sis), back to mowing, and then get cleaned up for lunch. I hadn’t really beat the heat of the day as previously discussed. After lunch, I just had to go check out the MotoFest that was being held locally. I can’t help it, I really enjoy motorcycles and it is fun to see other’s people’s passion for scoots as well. I have a whole other story to share sometime about being the largest person at the MotoFest who just happened to show up on the smallest motorcycle.
So, a little time spent checking out motorcycles, and then it was hurry home to watch the Husker football game. After the WIN by the Huskers, it was then watch the end of the Michigan/Michigan State game. Wow, what an ending. I see another story in the making. Then, I believe, it was go out for pizza time, come home watch a little more TV, then sleep. Not once did I have time, no, correct that. Not once did I make time to write GWFT. I kept thinking I could squeeze it in somewhere. That did not happen. Before I knew it, the day was over. Over and out.
Proverbs 28:26. He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe.
I can’t say that anything I really did on Saturday was foolish. As a matter of fact, everything was activities that I enjoy. Even mowing the lawn. As frustrating as it may seem, the finished product is always nice to see. But, I had failed maybe to walk in wisdom. I had relied on “my” schedule to get thru the whole day. I had failed to start the day with God. Thus, there just seemed no time for God for the rest of the day. Which, leads to our next verse.
Psalm 73:23-26. Yet I am always with you; You hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire but You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Today, realize 2 things. First, God is always with you. You may have many, many other plans, but God is always right there. Second, know that if you don’t start your day reaching out for God’s hand, He will be there, but you won’t use Him for your guide for that day. That day turns into that week, then month, then year, then. Next thing you know, your flesh and your heart fail. You have not taken the time in your life to do God’s will. He put you on this earth for a reason. He can bless your life in more ways than you can ever imagine. But, you have to start your day with Him. Otherwise, your day is done. Your life is finished. Over and out…………………………
Prayer: Dearest Lord, I thank you for another Blessed day. Forgive me for the days when I fail to include you Lord. I really don’t mean to forget to take your hand. It’s just that the desires of this world want really bad to take priority. Help me to always seek you first, God. Help me to know that a day with you holding my hand is a thousand times better than facing the day without you God. For there is coming a day when my life is going to be over and out. Lord, don’t let me spend another day without you as my strength and my portion. In Jesus’ daily name I pray. Amen.
