God’s Word for Today: Now. Somewhere and somehow, we have become a society of now. If you want a new car, almost certain, right now, you can go buy one. If you want a new pair of shoes, simply go online and right now, you can purchase the footwear of your dreams. Almost anything you want can be had right now. Waiting is no longer an option. If you can’t get what you want now, then you will just go to another source and they will supply it for you, now.
In truth, most everything is not, now. More like now, plus one day if you want to pay the extra shipping. But, you get my point. Now has become the norm. Creative financing and easy payments have made the now purchase even easier. Who knows what tomorrow will bring, so you might as well have what you want right now.
My Grandparents were probably the last of the wait, save your money, and then buy generation. Everything they ever purchased was payed for in cash. When Grandma was in her eighties, she tried to get her first cellular phone. She was declined because she had no recorded credit record. Grandma and Grandpa never had a credit card. They always paid their bills the same day the bills came in the mail. Grandma’s name did not exist on any of the 3 major credit reports. It was actually quite humorous and maybe a little sad. Grandma didn’t belong in the now generation.
My parents were involved in the transitional generation where they were taught to wait, save, buy, but the availability of now was starting to come to fruition. They most likely had saved and put a considerable amount as a down payment, but they were still the leaders to the now generation.
I can’t say whether this now thing is good or not. In reality, we aren’t quite to the true definition of now. But, Amazon is working on a drone type helicopter that will fly the product you order, right to your front step and drop it off. I hope I am around long enough to see what kind of creative target practice these little drone delivery sources will inspire.
Isaiah 33:10. “Now will I arise,” says the Lord. “Now will I be exalted; now will I be lifted up.
When God says now, there is no stopping Him. But why do we find now and God as two separate entities? Why is God not in the here and now of a person’s life? Placing the order for God is simple. There are no applications for credit to fill out. No delivery fees. You could have no electricity, no internet, no nothing, and still connect directly with God.
So why isn’t God right now in your life? Maybe He is, up to a controlled point, but in the definition of here and now, you have more pressing matters. Right now, you don’t have time for God. There is so much to get done today, you just plain don’t have time. Not right now. Maybe this Sunday, you can squeeze in an hour or so. But right now, God is just going to have to be patient. I can relate. I still find myself trying not to include God in my now. I like to have God more as a silent partner who I can call on when needed. In the meantime, I am blundering my way through life just fine. Or, am I really?
So why can’t God be a part of our now? Why is our now God limited to a cross necklace we might wear that day. Why is our now God kept to a quick prayer squeezed in between a cup of coffee and our way to work? Why is our now God kept at bay all day and then maybe if lucky acknowledged that night as we lay our head down to sleep? If we were scanning thru Pinterest and happen to see a creative display of our now God, would we then try to make Him a part of our daily lives? Is God something we just need to worry about later? How different would your life be if God was sitting there with you right now as you read this? Take a moment and realize that God is with you now. God is always with you now, are you with God, now? Hmmmmm, tough question.
Today, take a moment to think about your now God. What can you do right now at this moment to include Him in your life? Is there anything that important, in this world, that doesn’t have room for your now God? Can you recognize and acknowledge, that everything that really is important in your life, I mean truly important, is what God has given you in the first place? God gave you some pretty good stuff in your life to enjoy right now. Family and friends are God now things. What else would fit that list? Ask God, right now……………….
Prayer: Dearest Lord, my God of now and forever. Forgive me for not including you in my now. Right now, I have a lot going on. I am busy. I have things that just have to get done today. I love you Lord, but you are just going to have to wait. I know how wrong this sounds Lord. I don’t mean to not include you in my, now. I pray that I may realize how many now moments are distracting me from my important now that you Lord, have given me. Help me now Lord, right now, to have you in my life first and foremost. I may not even realize it, but I need you right now. In Jesus’, who opened the door for my now, name I pray. Amen.
