God’s Word for Today: Notebook
Part of my job description as a Construction Site Superintendent, is to keep a daily log of what happed through the course of the day. Plus, other details such as weather conditions, manpower, PROBLEMS, goods received and so on and so on. Some days there is a lot of information to note, other days, not so much.
Part of this information gathering is all written in a notebook. I start out with a blank notebook, trying to limit each day to one page. To prevent the mass slaughter of more trees, I also use the back of every page for every other day. Thus, when my notebook arrives at the last page, I have used a very good portion of the white background. This even includes notes on the side and top columns. Usually some quote or phrase I want to remember, but seldom return to for use.
So, we take an average 80 page notebook, using front and back, and no entries on Sundays and most Saturdays, I can easily make my notebooks last for ½ of a year, or a little more. By the end of that 6 month period, my notebook is looking a little frazzled. It then is worn out, retired, and only referenced when needed.
A brand new, shiny and blank notebook is then purchased and utilized. It is always refreshing to have a new start and an inclination type goal of keeping my entries better organized. This never quite holds to fruition, but it is at least a goal.
Our lives can be like that notebook. We have been filled with all the experiences life can throw at us. Our pages can become worn and tattered. Some days are fun to look back at and referenced for future joy. Other pages literally tear our hearts out. But it all stays in that notebook forever and ever. Oh how we long for a nice, clean, and ready to rewrite notebook of our lives.
God can give us that clean notebook. God does not keep record. We, as faulty humans keep record. Not only of our own history but sadly, records of other’s mistakes too.
Today, ask God for that clean notebook. Put your worn and tattered one away, and start anew. Enjoy all the blessing God has laid out for you. Start filling that new notebook with all the Great and Good things this life has to offer………………………..
