God's Word for Today: Mold. Before we go too far with this word, maybe we better define what kind of mold we are talking about. Even translated, this word mold, might be confusing.
First, we have the mold that seems to grow in little dark and hard to reach places. You might not even see it till you start smelling something that isn't quite right. Or, you have that black mold that grows in walls and makes everyone sick and you don't even know its there till it finall rears its ugly head. But, even that nasty, ugly, stinking type definition of mold can be a good thing. Not the same variety of mold, but the same principal. You have the mold that makes cottage cheese, and makes cheese itself. Oh how I savor a good cheese. You also have the life saving mold that penicillin comes from. So, we have the good mold, the bad mold, and the ugly mold.
Next, we have the mold that duplicates things. Or, the word mold as in, to form something. Preferably something beautiful like a potter molding clay, or a glass blower molding a figurine. Or, a mold created to replicate something from real life. I find watching the "How Its Made", a fascinating show. Especially when it is showing someone making a mold so they can use it to make one or many thousand duplicates.
I don't know if I have ever seriously tried to make a mold of anything. Maybe jello in a fancy bowl. Does that count? I've had a couple of casts molded on to me, one for a broken finger, (it was keeping me from playing football, so I cut it off after 1 1/2 weeks), and another for a broken ankle. The story of the broken ankle is one I need to share sometime. (I didn't want to have to pay a doctor to remove the cast, so after 3 weeks, I cut it off myself). Now, it might be determined that I am better at breaking molds than making them.
Isaiah 64:8. Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.
Here, the Bible is talking about how God can mold us into whatever He desires. We are the material for the mold. And God, is the artisan. That is pretty cut and dry. Not much to discuss there. Well..................
First, let's just say that we have finally gotten tired of going our own way. Life has dealt us some pretty cruel blows. Our perfect little mold is cracked, broken, and in serious need of repair. No one else wants to use our mold to duplicate.
Or, maybe we are the other mold. We have been in the dark for so long, we actually are doing harm to others. We are starting to kind of stink. No good can ever come out of what we have grown into. We are a useless mold.
Neither one of these examples is a permanent ideal. No matter how broken or fractured we are. No matter how unuseful we have become. All one has to do is ask. Ask God to take you into His hands. God can restore you. God can make you new again. God wants you to be beautiful. God needs you to be useful to others.
Today, realize what condition or what form of mold you are. No matter to what degree, God wants to make you even better. Let Him take over molding your life. Pretty cool stuff when the Master Artisan gets hold of you. Look at all the beauty He has created in this world. And know, you are part of that beauty..................
Prayer: My dearest Father, maker and molder of all things, today I turn my imperfect self over to your Hands. Forgive me for the choices I made yesterday that created another flaw. Today, with your help Lord, I ask that You take control of my life. I need you to work with me Lord. You promised that you made me beautiful and wonderful. Forgive me for breaking that apart. Only you God, can take these fractured pieces and make them one again. In Jesus' the Maker of all good, name I pray. Amen
