God's Word for Today: Lock. More like lock and key, but that is 2 words, so for today we will use lock, and hope we don't forget where we put the key. How many of you can relate to the lost key scenario? Probably the most frustrating thing in the world is to find a perfectly good padlock and the key is no where in sight. But, you throw that lock in your junk drawer anyway in hopes that the missing key will show up. Or, you find a key in the bottom of your junk drawer and don't have a clue what lock it goes to. Am I the only one that has to face this most frustrating problem?
The bad things that happened in Paris last week, because of media and social media bringing them to a highlight, makes a person think more about their locks and keys. The insecurity of life and some really bad people out there, makes one want to lock everything up. This is one of the major weapons of terrorism. The more time we spend trying to secure ourselves and all our belongings, the less time we have to enjoy life itself. The less time we have to enjoy life, the more disheartened we get. The more disheartened we get, the easier we are to defeat. A lot of short cuts and assumptions in that little trail, but hopefully you get the meaning.
Look at everything France is going through right now. Truthfully, they are only one step away from being a dog chasing its tail. Terrorists are still attacking a whole country without doing anything more. They have actually reached out to the whole world and once again, we are checking our locks. Can we, or will we, ever truly feel safe again? Even if we attempt to eradicate all evil, are we just spinning our wheels? Feels like it sometimes, doesn't it?
Matthew 6:19-21. Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
If you are young, full of energy and ambition, this verse is a hard one to swallow. You like things. Your mind is constantly thinking of how to make more money so you can have more better and nicer things. (I have always wanted to use the "more better" phrase). Youth is wonderful in its ambition. Here in Paraguay, most people cannot even comprehend why I like Paraguay so much, when there is so many more opportunities and money to be made in USA. Anyone over 50 who has buried both their Mom and Dad, and realize they are next in line, can probably easily answer that question. There really is more to life.
The Bible verse today answers that same question. The real treasures in life are what you store up in heaven. God's treasures do not require a lock and key. God will take pretty good care of them until you come to join Him. The beauty is, the ability to find these Heavenly treasures while you are still here on earth. Everyday, they are to be found. Everyday, God has many blessings to give you for your storage bank. No one can take them away. The heavenly treasures are yours alone.
Today, try finding one treasure or gift from God. For some who are going thru all out "hell" right now, I know this is very difficult. For those who have be robbed of joy by things of this world, taking the time to look for a gift from God, is the last thing you have time for. Or, so you think. Do me a favor today. No, do yourself a favor today. Make finding one good thing about this day your priority. Put fear, loss, sadness, pain, and all those bad things collecting, off to the side. God has a gift for you. Just for you. Today is a good day to remove the lock and see what God has given you...................................
Prayer: My dearest Lord, giver of all things good, I thank you for today. God, I am scared. I have many nice things. I am busy trying to accumulate more nice things. I really don't want to lose them Lord. Forgive me for attempting to secure only things of this world. Help me today to begin my search for the real gifts of this world. Your presence is with me everyday Lord. But God, I need your help today to find something good. Thank you God. In Jesus' your greatest gift of all who unlocked the door to heaven for me, name I pray. Amen.
