God’s Word for Today: Little Things
Are you familiar with the saying, “It’s the little things that count”? In my youth, my mindset was far away from that concept. But, somewhere through the years, the little things have become more and more important.
Have you ever wondered why a baby’s smile and even better, a baby’s laugh brings so much joy to a person’s heart? What could be a better definition of the little things than a baby’s pure and simple sharing of delight?
While we are, all smiling, and thinking of awesomely cute baby stuff, I want to share with you another little thing. Something as simple as standing up every day. Seems like a little thing. Yes, as age progresses and the body digresses, a few aches and pains accompanying that little thing of standing up in the morning. But, at least a vast majority of us give absolutely no thought of standing up. Just a little thing.
Today’s photo shows a different point of view. This was my basketball coach my Senior year of High School. He was an amazing coach that took us to the brink of awesomeness. Much admiration and respect was earned from his knowledge and self-talent of basketball. Then, an accident.
My coach, who I will always look up too, has not been able to stand for, by my count, 37 years. This picture shows a man standing for the first time in all those years. Just a little thing? More like a huge thing to my coach and the other thousands of people he has touched through the years. I look at that photo and tears of joy flood from my baby smiling face.
Luke 21:19. Stand firm, and you will win life.
Just a little thing Jesus thought He would throw out there. Stand firm. Yeah, ok. I take standing for granted. But stand firm? Do I even have time? Maybe I will just continue to sit? No.
Now we are getting back to the little things. Jesus of all the billions of people to walk the face of this earth was the only one who ever truly stood firm. And, He is the only one who can help us stand firm. Just a little thing, one sinless man gave His life for, so you and I could stand. Coach is now standing firm, He has won life. You can too……………
