God’s Word for Today: Left.
John 8:29. The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.
There are many directions today’s word left, can go. The obvious, of either going right or left. Then you have a choice of dominant hand. Are left handed people really more of the creative type? Next, you have politics, but what does being right wing or left wing really have anything to do with how you are as a leader? Personally, I never have to decide. I eat both wings and never even consider if one is right or left. Some of you right now are scratching your head. Others, are thinking, garlic parmesan or teriyaki?
Today’s left, is one that leads to empty. Have you ever felt like you are left totally alone? Are there days when it seems like there is no one left to turn to for help?
It is almost ironic how, just like birds, as we grow up and have a semblance of maturity, we feel the need to leave the nest. It is time to go. To strike out on our own. Find our own path. Take what is left of our childhood and leave it behind. Then, we suddenly feel like everyone left us. We are suddenly alone. There is nothing left behind us because we shut the door. That is a major hurdle to overcome. Some turn around and try to chase what was left behind. Others, put that behind them and move forward. And then, there are those that seem stuck in between and don’t go anywhere.
Have you ever felt like God left you? One moment in your life, you dropped down on your knees, unloaded all the guilt and pain from your wrongs, received forgiveness and were filled with the Holy Spirit. You and Jesus were arm in arm. Life was refreshed and renewed. You had nowhere to go but forward and up. And then. Well? And then life came back. The everyday grind inched its way back into your priorities. All of a sudden, your Spirit filled direction felt empty. Where did God go? What made God leave? Why has He left me all alone?
The answer goes back to the bird leaving the nest. God never left us. We left Him. For whatever the reason, we decided we could handle this thing called life. Yes, we would still take an hour or two once a week and spend some time in worship and praise like a good Christian, but the other 166 or 167 hours are just too full with everything else life has handed us. God will just have to wait.
And, just like that teenager who left home, we might suddenly turn around and run back to the comfort of our Christian walk beginnings. Which, sometimes is exactly what we have to do. Or, we spend our time going nowhere. Stagnant. It is what is it. How many years can be consumed accomplishing nothing in our walk of life? Actually, if you want, your whole life will pass in neutral. Or, we realize it is us who left Him. We invite God back into our life. We start to live for Him. God is in control. There is no better path.
Today, know that God has never, nor will ever be the one who left. It is you and only you that makes that choice. Also know that today is a good day to take what is left of your life, whether it is one day, one year, or many, many years, and give God the flight plan. God wants you to fly. You have the choice to either fall to the ground, or to keep flying……………
Prayer: Dearest Lord who is always with me. Thank you for your countless blessings and never ending love. Forgive me for leaving the nest and not taking you with me. I know there is really only one true direction for my life. And that God, is with you in the lead. I am sorry I left. Now I am humbly back. Let’s fly Lord. In Jesus’, who left the grave so I could have eternal life, name I pray. Amen.
