God’s Word for Today: Leave
John 14:18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
This Memorial weekend was one spent visiting cemeteries and acknowledging all those whose have left our world. It is a sad and empty time, combined with a recollection of fond and happy memories.
As I looked through markers that spoke names of relatives I never knew, I only thought of my desire to know more about them. I also reflected on the fact that with Mom and Dad gone, I am now an orphan.
I was at a funeral one time where a man was burying his mother and his friend came up and with care and reflection, stated “Welcome to the orphan’s club”. I will forever remember that scene good or heavy truth.
Today, know that God will never leave you. Period. Never. Do I need to say more?
Prayer: Dear Lord who has promised to never leave, I thank you. Forgive me for my doubts and my feelings of loneliness. Help me to believe as my Father, you are always with me. In Jesus’, who made the permanent connection with me and God, name I pray. Amen and amen.
