God’s Word for Today: Fruit
Galatians 5:22-23. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Have you ever been able to walk past a bowl of fruit and not grabbed at least one peck of delicious freshness to enjoy? Especially if there are the convenient little grapes you don’t even have to pause for, as you stroll by, pick a couple, pop them in your mouth, and not even skip a beat. Or, that bright, shiny apple, just waiting for your first munch. How about the banana that can be utterly destroyed in a matter of seconds? Ever thought about the fact that it takes longer to dispose of the banana peel properly than it does to consume said banana?
I prefer that orange sitting there with my name on it. Especially if I have really dirty and greasy hands. This orange provides 2 benefits with one shot. First, it cleans my hands really well while I am peeling it. Then, it gives me a super shot of Vitamin C that wards off almost all cold and flu threats.
So, I hope you agree, bowl of fruit, good. Nature’s candy. Not much more to say. Even a wooden bowl of that “oh too realistic” plastic fruit, makes a person go in search of the real thing. Fruit is good. Enough said.
Today’s verse gets into the fruit of the Spirit. Lots of good personality traits listed here. Probably not on the top 5 list for most of us men. Why is it so difficult to be of the male gender and allow these words to direct our paths? Do words like joy, peace, and goodness make a man soft? Is it the mentality that we men must have meat in our diets? Only so much fruit will suffice? Do you understand what I am saying? Maybe we need to focus on kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These words are easier to relate to from a male’s perspective, but, well difficult.
Just like that bowl of fruit you walk by though, the fruit of the Holy Spirit makes these choices available. You are welcome to take one at a time and add it to your list of consumption.
Let’s say forbearance is first choice. Grab it. Learn it. Live it. God will help.
Yesterday, we talked about how one must shed the bad that is hanging on for dear life. Not only shed the bad, but gather it up and dispose of it. Just like that tree shedding its leaves and flowers and fruit. This is strictly to make room for newer and better. We must go through the Fall and Winter of life to clear the path for the next Spring and Summer.
Maybe some get it the first go round and produce bountiful fruit for like, ever. Or, as in my case, a work in progress. I seem to be continually going through the seasons. I do know, the more room I make for the Holy Spirit to live in me, the easier it is to keep hold of its bountiful fruit. One day, I will have mastered all these great and good words as a guide to my life.
Today, start picking through this Word from God. You and God are the ones who know which words fit and which words need a little work. God has provided the source, the bowl of fruit. It is totally up to you to hunger for God’s fruit. It is up to you to pick from the bowl. Start enjoying the feast…………
Prayer: Dearest Lord, provider of all that is good. I thank you for your bountiful blessings. Forgive me for ignoring a good portion of the fruit of your Spirit. I am working on it Lord. I need your help every day. Help me to accept the fruit that is not on my preferred list. I know the only way to be what you made me to be, is by tasting everything you have set out for me. In Jesus’, who set the table so I could eat, name I pray. Amen and amen.
