God’s Word for Today: Fog
My friend and I were having a discussion the other day about the word fog. I made the statement that fog and clouds are basically the exact same thing with just an elevation difference. He in turn, offered the argument that if they were the same thing, then they shouldn’t have two different names.
How could I argue with the logic? Since we were driving and had little to no cellular service, the discussion was postponed until the next day when our shared mediator Google, was available. By then, my friend had lost interest, and I had to research this anomaly on my own.
Simple answer straight from many different sites on Google. Clouds become Fog when they touch the ground. More or less. But, fog is our word for today and not clouds, so we will just let this be.
2Corinthians 3:16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
I am blessed almost every morning to have a view of the countryside like you see in the attached photo. A major portion of the highway taking me to work is on the upper elevations overlooking rolling hills and somewhat deep valleys. Sometimes we are above the fog, and can see the canyons filled with their cloud like glory. Other times, we are not so blessed, and have to drive through the fog.
The mornings we are surrounded in rising sunshine overlooking fog filled valleys are my favorite. Makes me wish I could paint, draw, or anything resembling art, to be able to capture these perfect paintings from God. I just smile and say “thank you”.
The mornings where the fog is high enough to envelope the highway and visibility is limited, are not my favorite. Time to slow down and watch for the 100+ motos driving on the shoulders. And, people walking on the shoulders. And vehicles, without taillights not on the shoulders of the road. It is not pretty. It is not fun. It is dangerous and nerve racking.
Life can be like these scenarios too. Some days, or some periods in our life, we are buried in the fog of blindness. We might not even be in the valley of our existence, but simply overwhelmed with the fog that life can create.
Then there are those glorious times that we have risen above the fog. The sunshine of happiness is reflecting off us. God has touched us. Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”
In other words, the fog life hands us is put in a valley to be remembered and learned from. And all of the clouds that pressed down on your life and tried to hide you, are never strong enough to defeat what God has designed your life to be.
The only thing God asks when He helps you rise above your fog, is to remember others that might still be blindly making their way through their own fog. You are not looking down on their misery but simply, you know the path to rise above the fog. Good stuff…………… Amen and amen.
