God’s Word for Today: Drift
Hebrews 2:1. We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
I was fortunate to have been born and raised on a farm next to the Driftwood Creek. How it got its name, I don’t have a clue. The wood along the creek might drift down to another log jam maybe once a year, after a very heavy rain. And, the same drifting wood would eventually take out our carefully constructed “creek crossings” of our pasture fences. Most of the time though, there is no running water in the creek. The old dead wood from trees gone by, just kind of sits there. Not much drifting.
Typically, our lives are the same way. We don’t do a whole lot of drifting. Either we have a chosen direction and possible purpose, or we just kind of sit there in the log jam of life. Either way, the Bible cautions about drifting away from God. Ok, so we all get that.
Today, think along some new and different lines. Let’s say it is time to drift. It is time to seek new things. Possibly no clear cut path, more like just drifting along and see where you end up. Little secret; take Jesus with you. Yes, He is a great rule and guide to your faith. But also, who better to take with you, when it is time to just drift………………….
Prayer: Dear Lord maker of me and some pretty clear directions. Forgive me for either sailing full speed ahead or, just hanging out in a log jam. Help me today to break free and drift with your guidance and companionship. In Jesus’, who would love to go with me, name I pray. Amen and amen.
