God’s Word for Today: Dignity
Job 30:15 Terrors overwhelm me; my dignity is driven away as by the wind; my safety vanishes like a cloud.
Yesterday, one of my new found and wise friends, added his comments to GWFT. In talking about the forthcoming elections and the choosing of someone worthy, my friend offered the word, dignity. I believe he hit the nail as square on the head as is humanly possible.
This year’s elections, what we really seek is someone with dignity. Someone we can be proud of and brag about. Someone who will earn respect along with kudos and accolades. A person of dignity that will give us a reason to hold our heads up and have our own dignity. I can relate to this.
In my travels through the last few years, a short time spent in Europe, and an extended time in South America, I seemed to always be asked my opinion of our current President. Some of the inquiries are sincere and really want to know. Others, follow social media, and are expecting to see the hair on the back of my neck rise. At that exact moment when questioned, I know that I am representing USA as a whole.
I have two answers that I always give. My answers come from the gut. Maybe not the wisest choice of areas to base an answer on, but an answer from the heart is one based on emotions, and an answer from the brain is typically only half-truth because either one’s brain has not received all the facts, or one’s brain has been clouded by, well let’s just call it “life’s experiences”.
So, from the gut. The most honest area of the human body my first response is, and this is a direct quote from the source, “I believe President Obama means well, and is trying his best. He has had some good ideas and ideals, but our current entanglement of political parties and false agendas, has complicated things. What should have been clear cut and simple, has turned into a train wreck.” That is not an excuse, that is only the facts.
My second response is, “I never knew the true meaning of racism, until I heard the words of those I felt were good Christian people, voice their opinion of President Obama”. The gate had hardly opened for this man to be a leader of our Country, and the hatred that I heard coming from people mouths astounded me. My eyes were opened. I was sad. There is no dignity in what these people said and are still saying. I was ashamed to be categorized as a fellow Christian. I am still ashamed of the words I can easily find every day, in people’s posts. Dignity has left. No wonder many people seeking God are a little confused. Where is this love, forgiveness, peace, strength, and dignity?
God knows you and I are going to fail at many things. We are going to fail miserably. And, if left unchecked, we are going to try to drag others into our failures. The only way we can correct this is to go in search of this word, dignity.
Today, try a new Bible verse on for size, Proverbs 31:25 “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come” is the one you need to put in your daily walk. Take some time today and find the strength and dignity you need to do God’s will. Not your will. Not someone’s else’s will for your life. God’s will. Dignity might be exactly what the doctor ordered for us all……..
Prayer: Dear Lord, master of true strength and dignity. Thank you giving me a way to find dignity again. Forgive me for the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart that have taken an ugly path. I need to be able to hold my head up. I want to be proud of the life I am now living. Only you God, can give me dignity back. Thank you Lord. In Jesus’, who wore the sin and shame of us all on the cross, name I pray. Amen and amen.
