God's Word for Today: Deny. This has to be one of the most popular words for many politicians and oublic figures. Anytime they are accused, whether falsely or justifiably, nautural instinct kicks in and automatic denial comes forth. I guess I can't blame them. We learn at a very young age that denial, and if either true, or not getting caught wins, we avoid pain. That is, back in the day when spankings for wrondoings were common. But then, you learn that if you deny and some other truth comes forward, eating soap was not much better than facing the spanking. And public spanking via words, especially with the speed of mass communication, must be avoided to stay in the popular forefront.
So, that is deny. But how about self denial. As in something of this world that you crave on a daily, hourly, or minute by minute basis that you know is harming you, but is impossible to deny. I am not talking chocolate cake. Although, if you are of the canine persuasion, the chocolate part might kill you. And, I have to say, I found the best of the best of chocolate cake recipes (other than a Betty Crocker box mix), so how can one ever deny oneself of a delectible treat?
No, I am talking addiction type denial. One of mine, discussed previously, is nicotine. It has been a long time now since I partook in Mr. Nicotine's calming effects. Every once in awhile thought, the urge grabs me. Sometimes just a slight hint. Other times, like a sledge hammer. Either way, I have to bring out my box of self denial tricks to over come the invitation of this addiction. Sometimes I even use chocolate cake.
James 1:13-14. When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.
According to this Scripture, trying to blame ones desires on God is not quite the thing to do. And, if you read this Scripture again, you will notice that God cannot be tempted by evil, so why would he ever encourage anyone else. That would be like me encouraging you to eat all the cranberries at Thanksgiving. Because personally, I rather dislike the little reddish/purplish things. No, God isn't going to tempt you. Not even to test your Faith. Why should God do that? He already knows the strength of your faith. Period.
So, we got past that part. Let's dig just a little deeper. Luke 9:23. Whoever wants to be My disciple, He said, must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow Me.
But Terry you say, "I don't want to be a disciple of Christ. My life isn't so bad. I have a few minor faults, but I am OK. I am pretty sure I will still go to heaven." Well, yes, you will still go to heaven if you acknowledge Jesus Christ as the Risen Savior. And, you don't have to deny yourself of any of the worldly pleasures if you don't want to. God loves you so much, He gave you your own freewill.
One day though, who knows when for sure, you will suddenly have the question pounding in your head; "why am I here?" And, it might take you years of searching, but sooner or later, you are going to find that following God through Jesus, is why you are here. Doing God's will with whatever talent He blessed you with is the reason you here.
Today, you can deny God all you want. Or, you can acknowledge God, and with His strength, you will start to deny the things of this world that are constantly trying to destroy you. Denying is a bitch. Either way you look at it. But denying for the Lord is the path you have been chosen for.........................
Prayer: My Lord, my God, is there none to help me? Forgive me Lord for denying that I have a few problems. Today, I ask that you help me start to deny myself of those problems. I know God, from this day forward, I will need your Cross to give me the strength to deny what this world wants to give me. Everyday Lord, will be another battle. But with your strength and love Lord, I know we can win. In Jesus', who denied all the temptations of this world, name I pray. Amen.
