God’s Word for Today: Chase
Ecclesiastes 4:6. Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.
The last couple of days have been a typical Nebraska whirlwind of directions. Yesterday, the wind blew rather forceful out of the south. I pursued various construction pieces of plastic and Styrofoam out to the alfalfa field just to the north of our jobsite. Today, the wind is very forceful out of the north. Everything is heading south, out through the bean field on its way to Jimmy Johns.
If only I had waited one day. Everything I chased out north yesterday, I could have caught it as it blew past me on its way south, today. Tomorrow, I see myself chasing who knows what direction.
The Bible refers many times to a person chasing after the wind. One day we seem to be heading one direction and the next, well, whatever there is to chase the other direction.
Today, recognize the difference in your life between being tranquil and chasing after the wind. God has a plan for you involving tranquility. Follow that plan and let the kites of this world chase their own wind.
Prayer: Dear Lord who has blessed me with a purpose. Forgive me for the days and times I chase the winds of this world needlessly. Help me to realize most of that chasing is simply after trash. In Jesus’, who paved the route to our tranquility, name I pray. Amen and amen.
