God’s Word for Today: Candy Cane Cookies
In all of God’s great creations, on the list of the 8 great wonders of the world, in all the contests and awards presented for delectable treats, Candy Cane Cookies just has to be pushing for the top.
My mom used to make Candy Cane Cookies almost every Christmas. Typically, they were strictly for our Christmas Eve Carlson family get together. Mom always let us kids help with the other various Christmas cookies made and decorated, but if I remember correctly, Candy Cane Cookies were a whole separate type creation. Maybe my sister became involved at an early age as now she is the master of these rare and worth fighting for cookies. Somewhere through the years, I assumed the role of begging, pleading, and if blessed, consuming as many of these twirls of white and red delights as possible.
Yes, there are many, many various Christmas delights for the taste buds. But, until you have been privileged to savor a Candy Cane Cookie for yourself, well…… life just hasn’t been lived yet. You don’t know what you are missing. And, your meaning of existence is not quite fulfilled.
Are these cookies really that good? YES. And, they are even better when created by someone with the baking artistic talent of my sister. I tried to make some on my own one time, as impatience and fear of missing out forced me into labor. But, my own attempts were a huge amount of work resulting in only a hint of what should have been.
Our walk with God can be associated with the Candy Cane Cookie. When life is good, and you are daily counting your blessings from God, then it is like enjoying the best of the best cookies. You just can’t seem to get enough. But when life has handed you mud pies instead of Candy Cane Cookies, it is hard to appreciate the good flavors of your life.
Today, recognize two simple things. One, God is probably giving you a Candy Cane Cookie every day and you just need to simply enjoy it and thank God for the blessing.
Or two, you have the desire for a good Candy Cane Cookie, but life seems to be only handing you mud pies. Please don’t be discouraged. And please don’t go out and try to make your own. God has the master plan for your life, and very soon, just like God senT His Son for our Salvation, God will be sending you more Candy Cane Cookies than you can ever consume.
Then, it will be time to share. As in the only thing better than eating a Candy Cane Cookie is watching someone else enjoy one. Just like sharing God’s Blessings……….. Tis the Season…………………..
