God's Word for Today: Badass. That's right, badass is God's word for today. In Spanish, it is macarra. In Portuguese, Durao. In French, dur a cuire. And in German, knalhart. If this word offends you, I am sorry. Somewhere in the last 20 years or so, badass has become a very common word. It can't be considered a 4 letter word, because there are actually 6 letters in English. And if split apart, it is two 3 letter words. Which, is sometimes presented in that form, bad ass. Either way, some view it as a bad word. Doesn't there have to be a line somewhere? If badass crosses your line, then come back tomorrow and we will discuss a more appropriate word. Until then, accept my apology.
Yesterday being Veteran's Day, we honored and recognized a whole slew of badasses. Men and women who have served for the Country. Many have given their lives so the rest of us can try to be badasses if we want. If you sum up all the words that describe someone who gives their life for everyone else's freedom, wouldn't you consider that pretty badass?
In the dictionary, badass is: a tough, uncompromising, or intimidating person. In the urban dictionary, they take it another step further: The badass carves his own path. He wears, drives, drinks, watches, and listens to what he chooses, when he chooses, where he chooses, uninfluenced by fads or advertising campaings. Badass style is understated but instantly recognizable. Like a chopped Harley or a good pair of sunglasses: simple, direct, and functional.
Of the three discriptions/definitions, I prefer the last one myself. The simpe, direct, and functional, sounds more appropriate, but maybe also kind of boring? Personally, I will always think of a badass as someone who is willing to give their all for someone else and not look back. How many people do you know who at first glance seem to be the hardcore badass type, but you find out they have a heart of gold and you would always want them in your foxhole?
I have included a photo today that actually brought this word forward to be used. The meme, if I got that right, made me smile. It has a good point. The raccoon is pretty badass to ride on the back of an alligator. But upon further pondering, I decided the raccoon was actually pretty stupid. Being a badass and being within inches of somethings else's next meal might be pushing the line. There is probably a much better and safer way to cross the water.
1Chronicles 29:11. Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.
Somewhere in your walk of life have you been the raccoon riding the alligator's back? At the time, you probably thought you were pretty badass. Maybe even other's viewed you as such. This, gave you even more courage to be even more of a badass. Eventually, where did you end up? I know where that path took me. The alligator almost had his next meal. I knew there was a better way. That little voice call "sense" was talking, but I ignored it because I wanted to be Mr. Badass.
Jesus could have been a badass. He had all the power to do his own thing, where he wanted, when he wanted, and how he wanted. Further reading of the scripture leads one to believe this is what Jesus did. That is until, you incorporate all the prophesy of the Old Testament. Then you realize, Jesus did exactly what God told him to do. Jesus gave his life for the rest of us. All of us. You and me. You. Me. That, is awesomely badass.
Today, recognize who really is in charge of everything here on earth and in the heavens. You can be all the badass you ever want to be. But, until you give everything you have to a life filled with God's direction, you really aren't doing much better than that raccoon. To those who gave their lives for me, I salute you. Jesus, you are at the top of that list.................
Prayer: Dearest Lord and Creator of all things, today I regress. Today, forgive me for the times I think I am in charge of my life. Forgive me for all the alligators I have rode just trying to be "somebody". Today I realize Lord, you are in charge. You God, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the majesty, and the splendor of all things. I want to be a part of that Lord. Give me the strength to honor you God, by serving my fellow man. In Jesus's, who walked the walk, name I pray. Amen.
