God’s Word for Today: Anger, probably the most destructive emotion we have. When God made us, why did he include that most negative part of our being? Is there anything good that come from anger? Or are the results of anger always negative? An angry attitude might generate temporary action, due to the fear it inflicts. But long term, anger has devastating effects.
Think back to the times when someone has reacted with anger. Think of that gut retching feeling when anger is directed at you. Then, you have a choice how to respond. You either respond back with anger, which then just doubles the negative. Or, you absorb the other person's anger and let it slowly tear you down.
If you notice, even TV steers away from showing too much anger. They might use it to establish an evil character, or add a little drama. They also might refer to it as the cause of some horrific act, but generally, our entertainment industry even knows that people don't want to receive anger.
The Bible has multiple lessons depicting anger. Even Jesus, the ultimate example of Love, got angry. It is a human emotion that is the ruin of many a good person.
Today, pray for the strength to contain your anger. If it can't be easily controlled, pray for an outlet that is harmless to others. If you are the recipient of anger, pray for the strength and wisdom to be the one to take the higher road and respond with cool, calm, and collected. Make anger go to the basement where it belongs.......
